We have spent the month of October working on poetry. The students created a Biographical poem, Rhyming poem, Shape poem, Haiku, and Acrostic poem. They learned poetry words such as personification, simile and metaphor. The students used the writing process to help create each poem. They brainstormed, created a rough draft, and published their work in their poetry booklet.
After we finished our poetry unit, the students celebrated their work by inviting parents to attend a our "Poetry House" on Halloween Day. The students used the Elmo to display their work as they read their poems. We also had a special snack following....
